Artist Statement

The artistic process prepares one in small ways to meet greater challenges with creativity.

In my paintings I give myself permission to re-imagine the literal. Fractured compositional space, circles, and loops are gestures of intuition.

I have always put my faith in questions. For me, painting is a process in which ordinary subjects can inspire invention. I like the idea that objects can be depicted from a variety of perspectives. I'm interested in painting the intersection between the reality of what I see and the possibility of what could be.

The act of painting is messy, confounding, and always engaging. I’ve discovered that the only way to truly resolve a work of art is to let it lead where it wants to go.
